A&M women’s swim and dive dominates against Rice in final fall meet

The No. 11 Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team demolished Rice 171-91 in its final fall meet at the Rice Competition Pool in Houston on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
The Aggies took the first event of the afternoon, winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 41.65 seconds due to the combined efforts of freshman Miranda Grana and seniors Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek.
Senior Abby Grottle managed another win for the Maroon and White, achieving victory in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:06.51 and leading the race at every 25-yard split.
Each member of the relay team managed to win their respective individual events with Stepanek racing to a 1:49.94 finish in the 200-yard freestyle, Grana leading the pack in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.53, Kennett crossing the finish line in 1:03.54 in the 100y breaststroke and Theall triumphing in the 200y butterfly in 2:00.15.
Stepanek won her third race of the afternoon, swimming past the competition in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.50.
Rice finally won an event when senior Imogen Meers beat Kennett in the 100y freestyle with a time of 51.92 compared to 52.67.
The Aggies went back to their winning ways with victories in the 200y backstroke by Grana in 2:01.43 and in the 200y breaststroke by junior Joelle Reddin in 2:16.31.
Junior Amelia Kane gave the Owls their second win by thoroughly sweeping the competition in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.44.
Theall received her third first place finish with a time of 54.42 in the 100y butterfly.
Freshman Hannah O’Leary showed off her versatility for the Aggies by winning the 200y IM in a time of 2:05.61.
Rice took the final event of the meet by winning the 200y freestyle relay in 1:35.66 with a team of Meers, junior Arielle Hayon, freshman Neta Ussishkin and senior Elizabeth Myers.
Overall, the Maroon and White managed to win 11 out of the 14 events, achieving victory handedly.
The Aggies will start their spring schedule against Houston at the CRWC Natatorium on Thursday, Jan. 12.
