Florida at Mississippi State
Saturday, Sept. 21 — Davis Wade Stadium — Starkville, Mississippi
11 a.m. on ESPN
These two programs are in extremely similar situations — both find themselves 1-2, with their only wins coming against Football Championship Subdivision opponents. Mississippi State is hoping to rebound after getting blasted 41-17 by the Toledo Rockets, who were paid $1.2 million to put down the Bulldogs. The Gators just got bullied in the swamp by Texas A&M 33-20, and could fire coach Billy Napier at the drop of a hat. Both teams are uninspiring on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. One of them has to win, but it isn’t going to be pretty.
Prediction: Florida 16, Mississippi State 6
Arkansas at Auburn
Saturday, Sept. 21 — Jordan-Hare Stadium — Auburn, Alabama
2:30 p.m. on ESPN
Arkansas could be 3-0 if it had executed the little things against the then-No. 16 Oklahoma State. Auburn has looked unstoppable versus lackluster opponents in Alabama A&M and New Mexico, but struggled heavily when the California Golden Bears arrived at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Razorbacks average nearly 600 yards a game, and the Tigers allow 340 yards per game. This has all the makings to be a classic SEC shootout as Arkansas and Auburn average 46 and 44 points a game, respectively. War Eagle is not prepared for when the super swine strike.
Prediction: Arkansas 34, Auburn 21
Vanderbilt at No. 7 Missouri
Saturday, Sept. 21 — Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium — Columbia, Missouri
3:15 p.m. on SEC Network
The Commodores started this season with a bang after upsetting Virginia Tech, but had their early-season success shot down after allowing Georgia State to score a go-ahead touchdown in Week 3. Missouri has executed against all of its previous opponents but found itself on the ropes versus the Boston College Eagles. If the Tigers truly want to monopolize the SEC, then they should sweep the floor with the Commodores. Vanderbilt has the chance for the upset of the week when they ride the rail road to Faurot Field. Expect a tight first half, followed by a Tiger trouncing.
Prediction: Missouri 38, Vanderbilt 14
No. 6 Tennessee at No. 15 Oklahoma
Saturday, Sept. 21 — Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium — Norman, Oklahoma
6:30 p.m. on ABC
The Volunteers are 3-0 to begin the season and have won all three games by a combined score of 191-13. Freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava has Tennessee’s offense running like a well-oiled machine, averaging 639.3 yards per game. This makes Iamaleava versus Oklahoma’s sophomore QB Jackson Arnold one of the premier QB matchups in Week 4. Despite being undefeated, the Sooners and coach Brent Venables have looked vulnerable several times this season. Oklahoma is in for a rude awakening when Tennessee comes to town — get ready to be boomed, Sooners.
Prediction: Tennessee 45, Oklahoma 17
