As I waited to hear Sam Duncan, CEO of OfficeMax to speak to my marketing class, several non-business students walked in and began passing out fliers titled “Office Max: Forrest Killer.” These students then explained they wanted to ask Mr. Duncan questions about why he was killing trees and such at the end of his speech. I agree with trying to respect and uphold the environment, however, do it on your own turf. Mr. Duncan was invited to the Mays Business School as an inspirational speaker.
How would he have felt about our University if we bombarded him with environmental questions, meant to degrade his company? If the Dogwood Alliance wishes to speak to Mr. Duncan, or any other company for that matter, they should go to their headquarters. They should not damage our reputation by making our guests feel uncomfortable. The Dogwood Alliance had disrespectful intentions, which are not a good representation of Texas A&M University.
