Multiple Texas A&M fraternity members have been arrested following an unauthorized party involving three separate fraternities — Pi Kappa Alpha, Kappa Sigma and Sigma Chi — according to College Station Police
Officers from CSPD arrived at Aurora Court at 2 p.m. Saturday to disperse the crowd of approximately 600 attendees. A fraternity member had applied for a special event permit but had been denied due to logistical and safety concerns.
A statement posted on the College Station police’s Instagram reads, “The event … had been pre-planned with live bands, food vendors, portable restrooms, and a significant amount of alcohol … many additional partygoers were turned away while the food vendors and bands were shut down. The dispersal process took several hours, and the surrounding neighborhood was left littered with trash.”
Finance senior Walker Lanier was arrested on Nov. 30 in violation of city ordinances for holding an unpermitted special event. Lanier serves as the risk management chair for the Sigma Chi fraternity.
According to the city of College Station, a special event is defined as “a temporary for-profit or non-profit event, gathering, or organized activity held outside the confines of a building … that is expected to draw over 200 attendees.”
If an event involves the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages, a permit is required, regardless of expected attendance. The College Station hospitality department offers help for event planners to ensure all safety and logistical aspects of the event are followed.
“Several others were arrested on various charges as officers worked to disperse the crowd and restore order to the area,” the CSPD statement reads. “Post game officers responded back to the area to shut down yet another party of nearly 250 people.”
